Michael Herndon is one of the few Certified Professional Builder in Southern Oklahoma. Certified Professional Builder designation requires that you be a member of the State Home Builder's Association for at least two years. (Mike has been President of the Southern Oklahoma Home Builder's Association for the last four years.) Builders must complete nine hours of continuing education every year. Importantly, Certified Builders must carry Workers Compensation Insurance and a minium of $1 million in General Liability coverage and are required to provide a written warranty to each homeowner. He/she must also adhere to the Code of Ethics as set forth in the state by-laws and comply with all local, state and national building codes.
Certified Builders have made the commitment to further their education. The state has already checked their creditworthiness and confirmed their insurance coverage. If you choose to use a builder who is not certified - he/she is still required by the state to carry workers compensation insurance, unfortunately it goes unchecked by the state. Ask your potential builder for PROOF (not just their word) that they carry workers comp. and general liability insurance.!! If your builder is not covered - YOU COULD BE LIABLE FOR ANY INJURIES.
